ELLE home magazine
Figure 3
I really like these covers. One thing that I like in particular is the colour scheme. I think that the rose gold tones work really well with the other more neutral colours like the brown and off white. It suggests that it is aimed at a female audience because they are very feminine colours. The pink is not too bright and in your face and makes me feel calm and at ease. The use of the white text works well too because it does not take the attention away from the image, although it does make the cover line on top of the table cloth harder to read. It all ties in well together which makes it visually pleasing. The images are quite minimalist which works effectively because it avoids it becoming or looking cramped. The items used are photographed well; picking up the detail on each image.
The use of the phrase/ slogan "the secret of simple living" suggests it is a way to get rid of unnecessary items that you own and shows you a way on how to present your home without it looking busy. It foreshadows there will be a minimalist style inside, so people interested in decor will buy this magazine. Also, this could reach out to an audience who are on a budget because it is showing you how to style your place without an excessive amount of objects or spending. For example, it could be aimed at university students, as they are a group that have a low budget since university is expensive but will need things to decorate their room with to make it more homely.
However, the quality of the products on the cover look more like they will be a high price and are out of reach for that particular group, but they may buy it as a way of window shopping as they know they would never be able to get those things but like to imagine they have them. So the audience is perhaps involving those of a middle class background, as those things are reachable for them.
The masthead is at the top in the centre in a large font, which presses the brand of the magazine onto you and makes it memorable. Also, it keeps the same font that the normal 'Elle' magazine uses.
